Who's Minding the Store? (1963)
This is a delightful sampling of Jerry Lewis' funny faces and antics. Here is another movie that could make me laugh out loud a few times as Lewis' character innocently and single-handedly create havoc throughout a department store.
Besides the humor, there is a sweet message and moral to the story: Norman Phiffier is poor and has a hard time keeping a job, and he's in love with a poor girl whom he plans to marry and provide for all their lives. Little does he know, she's actually the heiress of the Tuttle Department Store fortune. She loves him because he loves her for who she is. The problem is, if he finds out about her fortune, he won't want to marry her! All the while, the wealthy mother is trying to thwart the romance.
Hilarity ensues.

Agatha Christie's Poirot: The Hollow

Agatha Christie's Poirot: The Hollow (2004)
I usually enjoy the Masterpiece Mystery productions of Agatha Christie's Poirot, starring David Suchet. This title is an exception. The solution presented, as usual, a surprising and unsuspected twist, but not quite in the style of most Poirot stories, besides that, it contained an inappropriate scene (brief though it was), that was unnecessary.
I look forward to watching other Poirot movies, but I'll avoid this one in the future.

Seven Chances

Seven Chances (1925)
Have you ever seen a silent movie? If not, you may think that they are sure to be slow and boring. You couldn't be more wrong. No movies are more sure to make me laugh out loud than silent films starring Buster Keaton. This movie was no different. Hapless young Jimmie Shannon is in love and hasn't had the courage to tell the girl that he loves her--until he finds out that he stands to inherit a fortune and must be married in a few hours. She loves him too, but doesn't want to be married only because he "has" to be married.
Jimmie's business partner says that the young man must be married anyway and the ensuing search, pursuit, and flight of and from any and all single women in the town is hilarious.
Who should watch it: while young children will need to have someone read the dialogue to them, it is sure to entertain the whole family and is perfectly decent and wonderful humor.

They Went That-A-Way & That-A-Way

They Went That-A-Way & That-A-Way (1978)
This movie caught my eye one evening as I was looking for something to make me laugh. I've enjoyed Tim Conway before in The Apple Dumpling Gang and GUS. Much like Don Knotts (Andy Griffith Show, Apple Dumpling Gang, The Ghost and Mr. Chicken), Tim Conway has a talent for making you laugh without any crude or inappropriate humor. They Went That-A-Way & That-A-Way did not disappoint, it's silly and fun. Before letting little kids watch it, parents should be aware that the wife of the prison warden constantly flirts with the other guards and is seen kissing one of them. Not appropriate, but also very minor and probably would go unnoticed by most kids.
MrsF3 recommends this for the family--enjoy watching two hapless county deputies go undercover in a prison and everything go wrong!
Who should watch it: the whole family (at the parents discretion, maybe with the fast-forward button handy)

Witness for the Prosecution (1957)

Witness for the Prosecution (1957)
This is easily the finest movie I have ever seen. Although many movies that I enjoy make me laugh or cry, want to sing-along, or join in the action, this movie does not do any of those. It is suspenseful, intriguing, and spell-binding.
I believe that this movie is possibly a perfect cinematic masterpiece. No, there are no fancy special- or computer-generated effects, it's not even in color, but it has superb acting, flawless casting, and wonderful story-telling. The outcome is totally unexpected... and you have to watch it to find out!
Who should watch it: adults and older teens
